911

911 is an emergency only contact telephone number that can be dialed anywhere in Nova Scotia. Wherever the call is made, you will be connected to the nearest emergency service provider. 911 is an emergency only phone line. If you call it for anything other than an emergency, you could be fined.

Call 911 immediately:

  • in the event of a fire,
    OR if you or someone in your family:
  • is suddenly very sick;
  • has sudden severe pain;
  • is hurt in an accident
  • is unconscious; or
  • has problems breathing

If you cannot speak English, do not hang up the phone. Help will come. An ambulance will come to your house to take the sick or hurt person to a hospital. Some hospitals have interpreters to help the nurses and doctors speak with people who do not speak English. When you call 911, a fire truck may also arrive at your house, even if there is no fire. They come to make sure that you get all the help you need right away.
